MIKOH Delivers Smart&Secure to U.S. Government Customer

Delivery Verifies Traction for Tamper-Indicating RFID in Government Markets

NEW YORK, July 31, 2007 – MIKOH Corporation, the only company focused on providing physical security for RFID tags, completed an initial delivery of Smart&Secure seals to an unnamed United States government agency customer, demonstrating traction in the promising government RFID market.

The government agency received a small quantity of each of three different Smart&Secure RFID tag designs, customized by MIKOH to meet end-user specifications. Two of the delivered products are pressure-sensitive, self-adhesive Smart&Secure tamper-indicating RFID tags. The third is a Smart&Secure tamper-indicating RFID loop-seal. The three designs will now undergo testing and further optimization for the target applications, in preparation for anticipated future orders.

“Government agencies in aggregate represent a substantial market for tamper-indicating RFID tags and seals,” said Dr. Peter Atherton, CTO for MIKOH Corporation. “MIKOH works closely with government end-users to deliver a customized RFID security solution that meets the government’s security requirements.”

Smart&Secure is a patented tamper-indicating technology that ensures the physical security of RFID tags by detecting if a tag has been tampered with or moved. In its simplest form, Smart&Secure disables an RFID tag if it is tampered or moved. In the more sophisticated Smart&Secure configuration usually required by government end-users, a tampered Smart&Secure tag continues to function but notifies an RFID reading device that tampering has occurred. This latter configuration means that a tampered Smart&Secure tag can still be detected and valuable data stored in the tag can be retrieved. Both configurations safeguard against tampering, intrusion, counterfeiting and theft.

“Tracking sensitive materials and safeguarding against unauthorized intrusion is of utmost importance in government markets, which is driving the adoption of both RFID and RFID security technologies,” said Michael Liard, research director for RFID and Contactless at ABI Research. “As RFID deployments rise, the potential market for tamper-evident security technologies is expected to increase sharply.”

Smart&Secure is compatible with all existing RFID frequencies and protocols, chip types and pressure-sensitive tag designs.

About MIKOH Corporation
MIKOH Corporation is a leading producer of security and digital marking products and the only company ensuring the physical security of RFID tags. The physical security of RFID tags is a largely overlooked problem in the emerging RFID industry.  For RFID end users who need to protect materials, documents and merchandise from security compromises and commercial loss, MIKOH’s tamper-evident RFID technology is flexible, scalable and easily integrates into any RFID ecosystem.

MIKOH conceives unique security approaches, researches and develops proprietary technologies to support these approaches, patents and prototypes the technologies, integrates the technologies with other security components, and then embeds these components in commercial and government products. The company has Australian offices in Sydney, NSW, and Melbourne, VIC and U.S. offices in McLean, Virginia and New York, New York.
