MIKOH HONORED IN FIFTH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AWARDS
Smart&Secure Selected as a Stevie Finalist for Best New Product
WASHINGTON, D.C., July 8, 2008 - MIKOH Corporation (MIK.AX) earned a Certificate of Finalist Recognition in the Best New Product category for The 2008 International Business Awards. The accolade honors MIKOH's Smart&Secure tamper evident RFID platform for electronic vehicle registration (EVR) applications.
Nicknamed the Stevie for the Greek word "crowned," and hailed as "the business world's own Oscars" (New York Post, April 27, 2005), the International Business Awards are the only international, all-encompassing awards program honoring great performances in business. Judges selected MIKOH's Smart&Secure technology as a finalist for its unique ability to fill a critical security hole in RFID applications. RFID readers only detect the tag - not the physical product. As a result, RFID tags can be removed from authentic products and placed on counterfeit items - or simply placed back in empty shipping containers. Readers falsely track these tags, promoting theft and fraud.
"MIKOH created Smart&Secure tamper-evident RFID solutions to help our customers avoid disastrous consequences that come with the inadequate physical security of RFID tags," said Matthew Blomfield, managing director and CEO of MIKOH Corporation. "Gaining recognition from the highly-esteemed International Business Awards validates the Smart&Secure product family and the results we deliver to our growing customer base."
EVR systems allow governments to recover lost vehicle registration revenue through automated compliance programs. Without tamper evidence, EVR tags can be transferred from vehicle to vehicle. Physically compromising or removing a Smart&Secure tag disables the RFID function. This prevents EVR tags from being stolen or transferred to vehicles not matching the original registration. This additional layer of security prompted Bermuda and other government entities to integrate Smart&Secure within EVR and other RFID applications.
The International Business Awards received more than 1,700 nominations from companies in more than 30 countries. The awards will be presented to honorees at a gala dinner on Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. Primary sponsors for the event include Dow Jones and IDA Ireland.
